Older Adults and Seniors in Peel
- 104,530 seniors live in Peel, representing 9% of the total population.
- Peel's senior population is increasing at almost three times the rate of the Ontario and Canadian senior's population.
- Like many communities, Peel is experiencing the effects of the baby boom, with a growing number of older adults and seniors likely to represent 21% of our population by 2031 (i.e. 1 in every 5 persons will be 65 years and older). Immigration and Growth
- Peel's population comes from 200 different ethnic origins and speak more than 70 different languages.
- On an average, 34,000 new residents settled in Peel every year between 2001 and 2006 (including an average of 22,000 immigrants each year during the same period).
- Immigration is a major driving force behind the growth of Peel's community. Immigrants accounted for approximately 70% of the growth in Peel's population between 2001 and 2006.
- Seniors comprise a sizeable proportion of Peel's immigrant population
Peel has a strong, active and diverse seniors' community. As a growing segment of the population, more resources and services are offered for older adults and seniors in Peel.
