Welcome seniors!
We invite you to enjoy our municipality.
The Township incorporates the former Townships of Derby, Keppel, Sarawak, and the Village of Shallow Lake. Governed by a Municipal Council of seven, the Township lies geographically north, south and west of the City of Owen Sound. The Township has some of the most beautiful and scenic shoreline in Ontario.
Fly, drive or boat. While you are here, we hope that you will have a chance to enjoy what we have naturally.
The Township is naturally beautiful, no matter what the season. For those visiting us, the abundance of natural beauty makes it a photographer's dream, rambler's paradise and naturalist's haven. For those choosing a home away from home or retirement lifestyle, housing opportunities abound in a rural, waterfront or village setting. There are also numerous bed and breakfast establishments throughout the Township.
There are many walking activities such as the walking path at the Grey Sauble Conservation Authority arboretum. Harrison Park, in the City of Owen Sound, has a walking path and boardwalk to get a closer look at the local fauna. Harrison Park also offers a Seniors' Drop-in Centre and an excellent restaurant.
Seniors can also check out their roots at the Grey Roots Museum and Archives. Come and visit and learn about the history of Grey County, or walk through the past in the Pioneer Village.
There are also two excellent medical facilities located in the Town of Wiarton and the City of Owen Sound, as well as a walk-in clinic in Owen Sound.
Georgian Bluffs borders the City of Owen Sound. The City offers many cultural events such as the Owen Sound Little Theatre, Georgian Bay Symphony, Billy Bishop Museum, the Owen Sound Artists Co-op, the Tom Thompson Art Gallery and the Owen Sound Farmers Market which is open on Saturday mornings.
Natural Heritage
The Niagara Escarpment travels through the Township affording scenic vistas, hiking on the Bruce Trail, and hours of enjoyment for the naturalist, photographer or scenic driving tours. We have self-guided Waterfall Tours, Rural Garden tours, Artisans' Studio tours and Scenic tours. Hikers and bikers can also enjoy the Georgian Bluffs Trail from Owen Sound to Park Head and on into Bruce County.
Take your lunch and stop at any of the roadside, shoreline or other park facilities. Stretch your legs and visit the heritage of Grey County at the new Grey Roots Heritage Centre located on Grey Road 18, just west of Rockford, or the Grey Sauble Conservation Authority Administration Centre Arboretum located just around the corner on the Inglis Falls Road. The Arboretum has walking trails suitable for wheelchairs.
Outdoor recreation of all types is featured in Georgian Bluffs and includes activities such as golfing, fishing, hiking sailing, and canoeing. Or take a tour of our three waterfalls. Inglis Falls is located just around the corner from Grey Roots on the Inglis Falls Road, and has well-established walking trails. Just off Highway 6 & 21, at Springmount, you can find Jones Falls which can be accessed by a short walk on the Ontario Northland Information Centre. Indian Falls, at Balmy Beach, named in recognition of the local natives of the Nawash Band settling in the area, can be reached by a rugged path which is accessed from a parking lot with picnic facilities.
Georgian Bluffs is also conveniently located within a 20 minute drive from the world famous Sauble Beach, or if you are looking for a winter activity, skiing at Blue Mountain is only a 45 minute drive away.
