Addington HighlandsThe Township of Addington Highlands is a rural municipality located in the northern part of Lennox and Addington County. The current Township consists of the amalgamated townships of Kaladar, Anglesea, Effingham, Denbigh, Ashby and Abinger. It consists of approximately 142,000 hectares of land, 70% of which is Crown, and has a population of 2,400 permanent residents and approximately 3,500 seasonal residents.

TreesAs part of the Land O' Lakes Tourist Area, its beautiful landscape is characterized by hilly terrain, frequent rock outcroppings, extensive mixed forest and more than 100 lakes and rivers offering an abundance of opportunity for camping, hiking, rock climbing, cycling, snowmobiling, swimming, boating, fishing and hunting.

TreesThe Township is situated an equal distance between Ottawa and Toronto and is within one hours drive of Belleville and Kingston. Within the municipality itself there are five small communities – Kaladar, Flinton, Northbrook, Cloyne and Denbigh – all offering a variety of services.

There are two libraries within the Township – one located in Flinton and the other in Denbigh. Both sites offer Service Canada Outreach services and Service Ontario services and operate as CAP sites at no charge. These handicap accessible facilities also have a wide selection of large print books and DVDs as well as high speed internet access.

TreesThe Northbrook Medical Centre is a complete medical clinic with a doctor, lab, dispensary, and dentist. Also located in Northbrook is the Pine Meadow Nursing Home. Other amenities within the village would include a grocery store, hardware store and a bank.

The Township office is located in the lower level of the Flinton Recreation Centre, 72 Edward Street.

Local Area Attractions

Bon Echo MuseumPartly located within the Township is Bon Echo Provincial Park. This 6,643 ha park, best known for the Mazinaw Rock, is located along the western shore of Lake Mazinaw and offers a wide variety of activities including camping, hiking, boating, fishing, swimming and canoeing.

The Flinton Bluegrass Jamboree is held annually on the Civic Holiday Weekend in August. This great weekend of camping comes complete with fabulous entertainment. For more information visit www.flintonrecreationclub.ca

The County TrailsThe County Trails include nearly 600 km of circular routes where you never retrace your path, yet are able to end where you began. While you explore these trails you experience the history, natural beauty, and serenity of a portion of the Land O' Lakes region. The Flinton Road Trail and Buckshot Lake Trail are two trails which travel through the Township of Addington Highlands.

This quiet, safe and welcoming community is increasingly becoming a haven for active retirees who currently comprise 25-30% of the population.

The Community Support Program offered by Land O' Lakes Community Services promotes a quality of life to enable seniors to remain in their own homes for a longer period of time by providing social and/or health related services.

Services offered include: adult drop-in, meals on wheels, diners' club, transportation, friendly visiting and safety checks, hospice program, caregiver support and a community bus.

Golden Sunset Seniors Club

Provides social activities such as bingo, card parties, films, bus trips, square dancing and more. Each year the club has an arts and crafts display at Cloyne. They also have bake sales and white elephant sales to help raise money for trips and equipment needed for social activities. They are a member of United Senior Citizens of Ontario.

Golden Apples

A fellowship group affiliated with the Free Methodist Church in Cloyne for those 55 years of age and up. They meet on the first Thursday of every month for an informal bible study and lunch. On the third Thursday of the month they take an outing to a local destination.
